Congress Asks Mayawati to Apologise for Remarks on Gandhi

New Delhi, June 17 (IANS): The Congress Wednesday demanded an apology from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for making "derogratory" remarks that Mahatma was a "natakbaaz" (a fake).

"The remarks made by Mayawati about the Father of Nation are highly condemnable. The remarks have hurt millions not only in India but across the world.... I would like to advise her to take back the remarks she made about the apostle of non-violence and should apologise," Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters.

Addressing a meeting of parliament members and legislators of her Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Lucknow last week, Mayawati allegedly called Mahatma Gandhi a "natakbaaz" (a fake).

She also distributed pamphlets, condemning both Mahatma Gandhi and Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi for being "insincere" to Dalits.

    The one who acts all the characters, May it be position, May it be corruption, may it be power or May it be criminalisation of politics is calling the father of our nation a “NATAKBAZ”? She should not be allowed to continue as a CM at any cost.

    She is ruling one state today only because of Mahatma Ghandi’s sacrifice, which she does not know. She must be condemned and thrown in to the prison as she has insulted our national pride. How the members of third front have chosen her as their aspiring prime ministerial candidate, shame on them.

    MK Gaandhi was no doubt a messenger of equality. He only termed the dalits as Harijans which means children of God. MK Gandhi lead a very simple life and died poor. But the so called and self proclaimed leader of dalits, Ms Mayawati is stinching rich and leading a very comfortable life and corrupt by all means.

    She has gone against the teachings of MK Gandhi and killed lot of her political opponents including an engineer who refused to pay donations to her beirthday party. Mayawati is disgrace to India and Indian politics.

    There is only one Mahatma, the whole mankind has seen. That is M.K.Gandhi.Its very easy to comment, but difficult to practice. Mahatma''s life itself is a great inpiration to humankind.I dont think, we need to talk/comment, give any weightage to loose talks of "Modern dalit leaders", as there are thousands at every corner of every lane around,just power hungry and greedy.
