Fight for your pride, self respect: Bindra

New Delhi, Aug 11 (IANS): On the 11th anniversary of his historic Olympic gold medal victory, former shooter Abhinav Bindra made a heartfelt wish and hoped that Indian athletes would bag a number of medals in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

On August 11, 2008, Bindra won India's first ever, and only till date, individual gold in Olympics with a thrilling come-from-behind victory in the 10m air rifle event at the Beijing Games. Bindra had shot 10.8 in the final round to clinch the gold.

"A year away from now I do wish that we would be busy celebrating several gold medals by our athletes. I wish them the best as they go and fight for gold medals but most importantly for their pride and self respect," the former ace marksman tweeted on Sunday.

In the 2016 Rio Olympics, Bindra finished 4th in the 10m air rifle event and later on September 5 of the same year, he announced his retirement from the sport.
