Mumbai: Ashawadi Prakashan, Divo Weekly hold Konkani writers meet

Mumbai, Aug 14: “Konkani language has grown globally with the advance of literature and social work. Our native language will never go extinct. It is only imagination. However, if particular communities speak their native language at home and during conversations, culture along with language will remain a vital force,” said Veez-e magazine editor Dr Austin D’Souza Prabhu Chicago.

A meet of Konkani writers was held by Ashavadi Prakashan and Divo illustrated weekly at Atmadarshan Prakashan, Mahakali, Andheri east on Sunday August 11. Chief guest, Dr Austin D’Souza addressed the gathering after inaugurating the meet and releasing special issue of Poinari.com.

In the programme chaired by Konkani weekly magazine editor, Lawrence Coelho, Konkani Bhasha Mandal Maharashtra president John D’Silva was present as guest of honour. Tributes were offered to author, late Walter Lasrado and Stany D’Cunha who passed away recently.



Kannadiga Patrakartara Sangha Maharashtra president Rons Bantwal was present. The fourth collection of short stories by Ashavadi Prakashan publisher, Poinari.com editor Vally Qadros titled ‘Kangala Kukkehalli matthu Kathegalu’ was released.

There were discussions in between about ‘Konkani in Mumbai in the future’. Flora D’Souza Kalmady, Philomena San Francisco and Dr Roshni Crasta took part in the discussions and put forth their opinions.

Secular citizen weekly magazine publisher Suzanha L Coelho and others were present. Flora D’Souza Kalmady, Alphonso D’Souza, Richard D’Souza Sanpada, Mary Vas Kandivli were felicitated and congratulated them for their invaluable service in Konkani.

Benedicta Walter Lasrado released ‘Patin Partallin Laran’, book written by late Walter Lasrado. Violet Alva introduced the guests. Vally Qadros welcomed the gathering, presented an introduction, compered the programme and rendered the vote of thanks.
