Protests in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over outages

Peshawar, Aug 14 (IANS): Residents of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa staged protests across the province on Tuesday over power crisis during Eid and blocked several roads by burning tyres and effigies of electricity companies.

According to The Express Tribune report, the protests, jointly called by civilian, commercial and political organisations, were held throughout the province.

Protesters said they were promised proper power supply during Eid, but the outage continued. Extremely low voltage also damaged several appliances, they added.

One of the key motorways in the province was blocked for three hours.

The political parties had appealed people to take part in the demonstration though mosques.
