Mangaluru, Aug 14: The department of Psychology at St Agnes Centre for Post Graduate Studies and Research Mangaluru, officially inaugurated the first psychology student forum association 'Certus Nova.'
The ceremony began meaningfully with a prayer song followed by readings from the holy scriptures.
Dylan Marian Mascarenhas, event manager, welcomed the audience and introduced the guests of honour. They were welcomed formally with a packet of seeds, keeping in mind the go-green initiative.
Ann Hormis Tharakan briefed the gathering about the department and how the association was conceived as a part of the decade long celebrations of the psychology post graduate department.
Bearing lamps of light, the office bearers of the association came forward and took their seats on the dias. The council president, Divya Balakrishna, accompanied the guests and ceremoniously lit the lamp.
The chief guest of the day, Virmasha Jain, officially unveiled the name of the association. Certus Nova, along with the principal Sr Dr Jeswina AC along with the members of the association.
Dr V Premanand, the HOD of the department of psychology headed the oath taking ceremony for the office bearers.
Divya then presented the objectives and rationale of the association and cheered the students for an inculcative knowledge sharing system.
Virmasha Jain, an ex Agnesian, and chief guest of the day, spoke at length about the initiative behind forming the association and the importance of knowing oneself. She stated that our department stands out from the rest of the scientific field as we "carry the lab within us."
Jain, also stressed on the importance of conscious commitment, and how that helps to build the positive change that Certus Nova aims to achieve. She ended her encouraging conversation by stating "three things that are important for any person - to know what one wants, the willingness to change, and to look on the inside constantly."
Sr Dr Jeswina AC, Principal of St Agnes College, congratulated the entire department of psychology, staff and students, for coming up with the initiative to begin an association. She stated, "Psychology is the need of the hour, and everyone must look up to Certus Nova as an inspiration to carry forward the light of knowledge."
Alisha, student of 1st year Psychology, was gifted a token of appreciation by Ms Jain for brainstorming the name of the association.
The program was brought to an end through a vote of thanks proposed by Sahasra, followed by the college anthem.
