Mumbai: Vegetable vendors use feet to clean carrots, penalized by BMC

Mumbai, Aug 15: On Wednesday, stall owners near Plaza Market in Dadar were penalized by BMC after a video of them using their feet to clean carrots went viral. The carrots were placed in a water drum, the sellers would step inside the drum to clean them.

An unidentified person who claimed to be a journalist recorded the incident. Apparently, the seller also tried to get into a scuffle with the journalist to stop recording and even tried to snatch away his phone.

When the matter reached BMC, FDA officials and market inspector were summoned. The BMC confiscated 20 drums from the illegal stall owners who used their feet to clean the vegetables. In addition to that, the officials also fined the stall owners for maintaining poor hygiene in their establishment.
