2 Bangladeshis killed by speeding luxury car in Kolkata

Kolkata, Aug 18 (IANS): A speeding luxury car mowed down two pedestrians - both Bangladesh citizens - close to a vital south Kolkata intersection early on Saturday, police said.

Another pedestrian was also injured in the incident that took place near the bustling Shakespeare Sarani-Loudon Street junction.

The luxury car, apparently hit by another vehicle, crashed into a traffic signal post before ploughing into the victims.

The two Bangladesh citizens - 36 year old Mainul Alam and Farhana Islam Tania (30), -- had come to the city for medical treatment. The two victims were declared dead at the state-run SSKM Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle which had rammed into the luxury car fled after the incident, but was later arrested.

Police said the arrested was the son of a renowned restaurant chain, famed for its biryani dishes.
