New exhibition turns gaze to contemporary Indian art

New Delhi, Aug 21 (IANS): Focussing on contemporary Indian artists who use media and material in non-traditional ways, an exhibition here will showcase the art practice of three artists.

The group show 'Contemporary Idioms' is hosting works of Purvai Rai, Suman Chandra and Divya Singh who come from diverse institutions.

Through a diverse range of concerns -- with Chandra's interest in labour in the coal mines on the West Bengal/Jharkhand borderlands; Rai's research on textile and Singh's contemplations on cultural memory -- each of these artists provide a glimpse into what is contemporary in Indian art today.

The show opens on Thursday and will conclude on September 10.
