Man bludgeoned to death in Mandir Marg area


New Delhi, Aug 22 (IANS) A 62-year-old man died after bludgeoned with a brick following a drinking session in the Mandir Marg area of the national capital on Monday night.

According to the police on Wednesday, a police control room (PCR) call was received at 8.15 p.m. The emergency response vehicle (ERV) found an injured man lying on the footpath. He was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital. Due to severe head injuries, the doctors said he was not fit for the statement, the police said.

A case under section 308 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at the Mandir Marg police station on the basis of statements by witness.

"The initial investigation showed that the victim Jeevan and the accused Zakir were consuming alcohol. They had an alteration and the accused hit Jeevan several times with bricks," said a police officer.

Jeevan succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, following which a case under section 302 was registered and the accused was arrested.

The police have seized the brick used in the crime.
