Panaji, Aug 22: In an apparent dig at the state government, the Congress party in Goa on Wednesday said, it would not mind offering mineral water bottle to BJP National president and Home Minister Amit Shah, who is visiting the state on Thursday. Amit Shah would be chairing meeting of West Zone Council at a starred hotel in the city on Thursday which would be attended by chief ministers of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Goa and administrators of Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
The state is facing acute water crisis for the past seven days and the authorities had assured that water supply will be restored by Tuesday evening, but they failed. Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) chief, Girish Chodankar tweeted, 'On behalf of thirsty people of Tiswadi and Ponda Taluka including the capital city who are dying to see their taps run for the last seven days, @INCGoa won’t mind providing mineral water bottles to @AmitShah during his visit tomorrow as I am sure the taps in his hotel room will also be dry'.
The water supply to two talukas – Tiswadi and Ponda – which also covers the capital city, Panaji has been cut since August 15 after a water pipeline burst near Ponda town. In the meanwhile, PWD Minister Dipak Pauskar on Thursday, assured that water supply to the capital will be restored by midnight.
