M'luru: St Agnes Centre for PG Studies and Research Centre spreads awareness on substance abuse

Mangaluru, Aug 22: The students of the department of Clinical Psychology from St Agnes Centre for Post Graduate Studies and Research along with their teachers conducted a one-day seminar for I, III, V and VII semester undergraduate students of SIHA - Sarosh Institute of Hotel Administration on 'Promoting Awareness on Substance Abuse' on August 20. Nearly 400 students benefitted from the seminar conducted in batches over morning and evening sessions.

The students were introduced to the concepts of substance use and abuse and the potential progression of substance use pattern into one of dependence.



The topics covered included a basic understanding of the mechanism of addiction; the various effects, side-effects and risks of commonly used substances; laws and penalties established to curb their use; myths associated with commonly used substances and the option of treatment and its availability.
