Andhra CM hails world champion Sindhu

Hyderabad, Aug 25 (IANS): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday congratulated ace shuttler P.V. Sindhu for creating history by winning gold at the World Championship in Basel, Switzerland.

"The first ever Indian to win World Championship, Sindhu has done the state and the nation proud with her smashing victory," the Chief Minister said.

He also wished that the Hyderabad girl's winning streak continues.

In a final that lasted just 36 minutes, Sindhu demolished Nozomi Okuhara of Japan 21-7, 21-7 to lay her hands on the coveted world title.

This was Sindhu's third consecutive final at the World Championships, having been beaten by Okuhara in 2017 and Olympic champion Carolina Marin in 2018. Sindhu had also won bronze in 2013 when she was just 18 before repeating the feat the very next year.
