Bahrain pardons 250 Indian prisoners on Modi visit

Bahrain, Aug 26: The Bahrain government on Sunday pardoned 250 Indians, serving sentences in the Gulf nation, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the country. The Bahrain government showed the humanitarian gesture during the first visit of Indian PM.

PM Narendra Modi thanked the Bahrain leadership for the Royal pardon. Expressing gratitude to the to the oil-rich country, Prime Minister's Office tweeted "In a kind and humanitarian gesture, the Government of Bahrain has pardoned 250 Indians serving sentences in Bahrain."

Though it is not clear how many Indians are lodged in jails in the Gulf kingdom, official data says, Saudi Arabia has the highest number of Indians, 1,811 followed by the UAE at 1,392, lodged in various prisons.

    There is something in Modi that our previous Prime Ministers lacked. 7 nations awarded him their highest civilian awards!!! Everywhere the Premiers are welcoming him on the tarmac themselves!!! He must be doing great for India, which we common people do not understand. Probably after some time when we start reaping the benefits of Modi's rule, we can start praising him in India.

    That is very kind of HM. Some are unfortunate to fall in traps. PM Modi is doing good work in India and abroad. God bless him to continue his work to create a peaceful atmosphere wherever he ventures.

    Indeed these people who suffered in Gulf jails are victims of neglect. These toiling souls does not have to go to gulf if there are jobs in India. Besides the gulf nations economy in terms of manpower is recruited from overseas many from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Philippines and the list goes on. Most people are paid peanuts and live in crowded conditions.

    Its time Consular services get involved early in the arrest of these people for whatever reasons like most first world countries do and get release.

    The so called profile visits and the publicity like this gesture is too late for these suffered souls.

    Are they war prisoners? If not, why are we sympathetic to the Indian prisoners in Bahrain than the prisoners in India? Criminals are criminals and they should serve their sentence.

    Why than in islamic countries during ramdhaan pardon some of prisoners..?? Some may be lack in prison for petty things..as not holding propper documents, fighting with others, traffic violation or robbery. In India most of people in india are involved in major crimes like going against government anti nationals and involved in terrorist activities. We also pardon some prisoners who involved in small crime or make there punishment period less.
