Udupi, Aug 27: Children in school need a platform to communicate their ideas and build confidence. To make this practically possible Milagres English Medium Kallianpur organised Fr G L D’ Cruz memorial inter-school elocution competition 2K19 as part of the Ruby Jubilee Celebration Year of Kindergarten School near here on August 27 in the afternoon from 1.30 pm onwards. 13 schools from Udupi District participated in the competition. The event began with the prayer song led by students. Prof Leena Fernandes, alumnus of Sikkim Univeristy Manipal  was the chief guest. Shina from VII std welcomed the gathering.

The event was inaugurated by the chief guest by unveiling of the canvas. Fr Dr Lawrence C D’Souza, Correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions presided over the programme. In his message Prof Leena enthused the students to have the habit of reading and articulating ideas. Communicating is a gift and communicating effectively is an art. Swati, PTA vice president of primary section was the guest of honour. Veera D’ Silva, headmistress of primary school and Rev Fr Lancy Fernandes SJ, principal, were present on the dais. 

In his presidential address Fr Lawrence C D’Souza recalled to mind with gratitude the tireless efforts of Fr G L D’Cruz, founding father of Milagres English Medium in whose memory the event was organised. Shanthi compered the programme. Adnan from Std VII proposed the vote of thanks.

Lots were taken and the competitions were held in two categories – Lower Primary (Std IV & V) and Higher Primary (VI & VII). Two students from each of the 13 schools gave their best.

Topics for elocution competition:

Higher primary section: “Technology – A Boon or Bane for children”

Lower primary section: “Development & Saving Nature cannot go hand in hand”
