Dubai, Aug 31: An Emirati man (32), stood trial at Dubai court for assaulting two officers on duty when they recovered stash of drugs during a search of his car.

As per police, the accused was pulled over while travelling through Al Barsha on March 6 police patrol because his car registration had expired. The officers found something was amiss when they spoke to the accused and conducted a search of his vehicle. The police patrol found methamphetamine and Lyrica tablets, which are used to treat epilepsy but banned in UAE.

As reported in National Daily, the police officer said, “When we double checked his documents, we noticed that he and the woman in his company were not in normal condition. We found drugs in his car and asked him to accompany us to the police station but he would not. He started hitting himself, throwing his body to the ground and resisting arrest. We had to call for backup,” said the officer.

The police said the accused allegedly kicked and pushed both officers before throwing himself to the ground. The cops restrained the accused and took him to the police station for questioning. It was later found that he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident, Dubai Criminal Court was told.

The accused however on Monday, denied charges of physical assault, possessing and using drugs in court. The case has been adjourned till September 12.
