Udupi: District level Rover, Ranger Mate training camp help at St Mary’s College Shirva

Udupi, Aug 31: Bharath Scouts and Guides, Karnataka, district association, here organised a two day district level Rover mate and Ranger mate training camp at St Mary’s College, Shirva on August 29.

Deputy commissioner of Udupi District G Jagadeesha IAS inaugurated the camp by lighting a lamp. In his inaugural address, he stressed the role of youth power in transforming India. Youth has great potentials of change and growth but, due to technological advancement, young people are slightly deviating from the mainstream. He advised the young people to use mobile phone and technology for the betterment and growth of society. Commitment and time management are the key steps to success. Nothing has spoiled society, but it is our negative perspective that spoils everything. He urged the young people to be positive in thought and action to make the country more powerful.



The correspondent of St Mary’s and Don Bosco Institutions Fr Denis A D’Sa in his presidential address congratulated the young men and women for being messengers of peace and service. He urged the participants to take the best from the camp and give the best to society. He wished all the participants and organisers success.

Dr Vijayendra Vasanth, district commisione (Scouts), Bharat Scouts and Guides, Udupi, said 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' which is entire world is our family, the culture of India. "Scouts and Guides helps to promote universal fraternity and solidarity. Every citizen has to respect the nation, mother earth and fellow citizens along with self and family. There is no religion for humanity. Do not change your smile for the world, but change the world by your smile. Jyothi J Pai, district commissioner(Guides), Bharat Scouts and Guides, Udupi and Varija, nodal officer, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Mangalore University spoke on the occasion.

Principal of St Mary’s College, Prof Rajan V N delivered introductory remarks and wished the organisers success. Rover Scout leader of St Mary’s College, Shirva and leader of the camp, Asst Prof Prakash welcomed the gathering and Ranger leader Asst Prof Sushma proposed the vote of thanks. Asst Prof A Melwyn Castelino compered the programme.

I K Jayachandra Rao, district secretary BSG Karnataka Udupi District Association, Prof Jayaram Shettigar, district joint secretary, Umesh Pai, treasurer, Nithin Amin, district organiser(Scouts), Suman Shekar, district organiser(Guides), Ananda Adiga, district training commissioner of Scouts & Guides were present during the occasion.

Around 250 Rovers and Rangers from 21 colleges of Udupi district along with members of the District Association of Bharat Scouts and Guides, Karnataka and Rover Scout leaders and Rangers leaders from different colleges participated in the camp. The camp ended on August 30 with a valedictory programme at 3 pm.
