Era of Swiss bank secrecy over, details to come from September

New Delhi, Aug 31 (IANS): India will start getting details of bank accounts held by its citizens in Switzerland from September, ending the era of Swiss bank secrecy.

The development is a major success of the Modi government's fight against black money ever since it first came to power in 2014.

"India will receive information of the calendar year 2018 in respect of all financial accounts held by Indian residents in Switzerland. This will be a significant step in the government's fight against black money as the era of Swiss bank secrecy will finally be over," the Income Tax department said in a tweet.

The announcement follows meeting of a Swiss delegation led by Nicolas Mario Luscher, Deputy Head of Tax Division, State Sectt for International Finance, with Revenue Secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey and senior tax officials of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

The first automatic exchange of financial account information (AEOI) under Common Reporting Standard (CRS) would start from next month.

During the 2-day meeting in the Capital on August 29-30, both sides discussed bilateral exchange of information matters to expedite execution of tax information sharing requests made by India in specific cases.

"Enhancing collaboration in offshore tax compliance matters were also discussed," the department said.

CRS- known as Common Reporting Standards is a worldwide exercise to report tax authority of each country the accounts held by non-residents account holder deposits. Its nothing to do with Modi's black money initiative and BJP should not be taking credit for this exercise .

As this money is NOT EARNED, Indian government can take over this UNEARNED money to resolve problems created by UNEARNED Money.

First, from Indian Government point of view, Indian government should declare all account holders money to be null and void, and their accounts to be RESET to Zero, Zero,Zeroes... to avoid economic slavery to 70% of Indian population.

Secondly this money need to be used to pay all foreign debt and to reduce Indian trade deficits. These two actions will bring down value of dollar from current 72 rupees to a less than 30 rupees to stabilize India's economy and India as a whole...

We should get the information of all Indian accounts holders of Swiss banks for the last 7 accounting years. They many not have much money left in 2018 since accounts holders might have brought that money through back doors. "Aramane KoLLe Hodedha mele Koteya baagilu haakidaru"

What will the Indian govt do with the information ? The ex-FM of India had said that 'all money in Swiss Bank is not black ' How will the govt differentiate the colour ?

Will each Indian's eligibility too go down from 15 Lacks now ? I mean according to Indian growth rate that's reduced, the eligibility too might reduce - won't it ?

The Indian govt has designated terms for income earned abroad - NRE RNOR. Both these accounts are for depositing incomes eaened outside India, in different period-schedules. An Indian is not allowed to keep money abroad because as per the government, its black. Now, if its the kick-back earnings by politicians over some deals, I understand the categorization. However, how can it be called black if an actor or a sportsperson earned it outside India and wished to keep it abroad for his personal use ? Say, to pay his overseas staff's salary or his property maintenance ?
Let the government first account for illegal wealth earned by corporators, DCs, IPS/IAS officials, ministers within India. Then go to publics illegal wealth.
