Greek, Turkish Cypriot communities leaders to meet UN envoy

Nicosia, Sep 1 (IANS): The leaders of the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities are preparing to meet an envoy of the UN secretary general on Sunday, who is on a make-or-break mission in the eastern Mediterranean island.

Jane Holl Lute arrived in the island on Saturday to meet in succession with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, Xinhua news agency reported.

Analysts said on Saturday that the meetings may prove decisive for the future of negotiations, which have stalled since July, 2017.

Prior to her meeting with Anastasiades on Sunday morning, Lute is expected to convene with the UN special representative in Cyprus, Elizabeth Spehar and her UN team dealing with the Cyprus issue.
