Delhi Police arrest 11 cattle smugglers


New Delhi, Sep 2 (IANS): The Delhi Police have arrested 11 alleged cattle smugglers and a mobile phone snatcher, and recovered six stolen vehicles on Friday-Saturday night.

According to the police on Sunday, the PCR unit while patrolling the Rajghat area received the information that a truck was transporting cattle. When it was stopped, two persons -- Satbir, 42, and Naresh, 50, both residents of Hisar in Haryana -- claimed to be the cattle owners.

On search, the cops found three buffaloes and 43 calves. Of this, two buffaloes and two calves were dead. Nine more people were also travelling in the vehicle.

In a separate incident, one person complained to the PCR staff at Jama Masjid Metro station that his mobile phone had been snatched. The cops launched the search and nabbed the snatcher Arafat, 24, and recovered the phone.

The police said four cases had earlier been filed against Arafat.

The PCR staff also recovered two stolen cars, three two-wheelers and one auto-rickshaw from various places in the capital.
