Housewife commits suicide on Delhi Metro, services hit


New Delhi, Sep 3 (IANS): A 45-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of an incoming train at Delhi Metro's Jhandewalan station on Monday morning, the police said. Though no suicide note was found, there are no signs of any foul play, they added.

Due to the incident, services on the Blue line were briefly disrupted, a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation official said.

According to the police, the incident happened around 8.30 a.m. and on the basis of photographs and a tattoo mark inscribed on the woman's right hand, she has been identified as Mira Devi, a resident of Ragubir Nagar. She has four children and was a housewife. Her husband deals in sale of old clothes.

The body of the woman has been shifted to Lady Harding Medical College.

According to the Delhi Metro official, the train was going towards Noida Electronic City/Vaishali and services were disrupted for about 10-15 minutes.
