Lucknow, Jul 3: Armed with a ‘go ahead’ signal from the law department, Uttar Pradesh government is finally set to grant prosecution sanction against Pilibhit MP Varun Gandhi. There is a strong case made out against the BJP MP, the department has stated in its report, after a week long deliberations over the issue.
The recommendation could mean fresh trouble in store for Varun as the sanction would pave way for filing of a chargesheet in ‘hate speech’ cases pending before the Pilibhit district court. And with reports of Maya government considering the possibility of setting up a fast track court to expedite the trial, the MP would need all his luck to get out of the mess this time.
For records, On June 25, a letter seeking permission to prosecute Varun under Section 153A of the IPC in cases pending against him in the CJM court was dispatched by Pilibhit administration to state home department (153A deals with acts designed to spread enmity between two section of society).
