Shanbag grabs 1st spot in Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup


Coimbatore, Sep 3 (IANS): Ikshan Shanbag from Satara grabbed the first position in Round 2 of the fourth season of Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup held at KMS Coimbatore which took place on September 1 and will represent India at the at Red Bull Moto GP Rookies Cup Qualifiers to be held in Spain.

Shanbag (10:35.841) dominated the race, held for children from age 12 to 16, with exuberant energy and flair. Bangalore's Aditi Krishnan gave tough competition and took second position with a stunning total lap time of 10:51.180.

Proving his worth on the track and securing the third place on the podium was Pune's Aryan Gurav, who completed seven laps in 10:53.688 time.

For Race 2, while Shanbag continued to dominate the racetrack and successfully secured No. 1 position by concluding 10 laps in 14:56.415 minutes, the second and third spot was held by Aditi Krishnan from Bangalore (15:20.919) and Pune's Aryan Gaurav (15:23.780) respectively after completing nine laps.

"I am ecstatic to win the Red Bull Road to Rookies Cup. There was tough competition from the fellow racers and to win the tournament is a special feeling," said Shanbag.

"I am excited to travel to Spain and represent India at the Red Bull Moto GP Rookies Cup Qualifiers; I hope to make my country proud."
