Panaji, Sep 4: A lifeguard agency on Goa beaches on Sunday informed that a different type of marine organism called blue button that can cause extreme skin irritation among humans have been sighted along the Goa coast.
Blue button is a marine organism similar to jellyfish, also known as porpita which consists of two main parts: the float and the hydroid colony. The almost flat, round and about one inch wide blue button lives on the surface of the sea and is mainly found in tropical and sub-tropical waters of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans.
As per PTI source, Drishti Marine Service, in their statement said, "Our lifeguards spotted blue buttons washed ashore onto beaches in north and south Goa. Its sting is not powerful but touching it can cause skin irritation."
The Marine Service also informed people not to venture into the sea due to bad weather and rains.
