Bring law on live-in relationships: Rajasthan HRC to state

Jaipur, Sep 5 (IANS): The Rajasthan Human Rights Commission has recommended that the state government enact a law on live-in relationships in which terms and conditions regarding the relationship are clearly chalked out.

The commission on Wednesday said women suffer the most out of live-in relationships as they fail to live a dignified and respectful life. Even the kids born out of such a relationship have no secure future.

A bench of the State Human Rights Commission, which comprised Justices Prakash Tatia and Mahesh Chandra Sharma, sent a recommendation letter to the Chief Secretary and the Additional Chief Secretary (Home Department), urging the state government to bring a law in this regard.

The Commission recommended the state government enact a comprehensive law in this regard which should have clarity about the qualification and eligibility of the parties for such a relationship.

Also, the new law should shed light on the circumstances and the manner in which such relationships can be ended. Counselling should be made mandatory before ending the relationship, the Commission also suggested.
