Union Minister Sarangi appears in court in SC/ST cases

Bhubaneswar, Sep 7 (IANS) Union MSME Minister Pratap Sarangi on Friday appeared before a special court here in connection with two cases filed under the SC/ST (prevention of atrocity) Act, said sources.

While one case is related to the cremation of a dead body in 2004 and the other is about his alleged involvement in a protest in 2011, sources added.

"These cases against me are completely baseless and manufactured. As the matter is sub judice, I don't want to discuss them," said Sarangi.

Bijay Singh, Sarangi's lawyer, said the Union Minister appeared before the Bhubaneswar special court in connection with two cases, which were filed out of political vendetta.

He informed that both the cases have been transferred to Bhubaneswar special court from Nilagiri sub-divisional judicial magistrate court and additional session judge, Balasore.
