Mangaluru: Srinivas Institute of Technology Valachil inaugurates Marine Student Association AIMES

Mangaluru, Sep 7: The inaugural function of Marine Student Association AIMES-2019-20 was held on September 5 at Srinivas Institute of Technology, valachil, here.

Narayan T, chief engineer, chairman of The Institute of Marine Engineers India (Karnataka chapter) was chief guest of the function which was presided over by Dr Shrinivasa Mayya D, principal of Srinivas Institute of Technology.

In his inaugural address, he talked about the theme of International Maritime Organisation (IMO) for this year, 'Empowering Women in the Maritime Community'. He informed the students about the women who were trailblazers in the marine industry and asked the students to aspire to achieve more, professionally. He also recognized the girl cadets taking initiative in the marine Engineering department.

Before the official function, Narayan T inaugurated the new students’ activity room which houses the department library, indoor games for the students and the various ship models made by the marine students.

Dr Shrinivasa Mayya D in his presidential address congratulated the office bearers of Marine Student Association AIMES-2019-20 and asked them to take part in the association's activities, to learn new lifeskills and suggested they utilise the facilities available in the new activity room to improve themselves.

Dr Shankar K S, head of Marine Engineering, encouraged the students to extensively use the opportunity available under AIMES platform to progress their growth in technical areas and exhibit their talents. He also asked the students to take part in extracurricular activities to mitigate stress in their lives.

On the occasion, all the dignitaries released a new edition of ‘The Atlantis’ newsletter. Prof Vivek V Kumar, editor of the newsletter led the association members into taking their oath of office. He also enumerated the features of the new monthly newsletter. Prof Nitin Joshua, faculty advisor, AIMES, briefly explained the activities of 2018-19 and listed out the proposed activities of the association for the academic year 2019-20.

The dignitaries, staff and students were welcomed by Prithviraj S, president of AIMES while the Vote of thanks was delivered by Ramesh D K, secretary of AIMES.

Master of Ceremonies were Arsala Jamsheed and Ganesh M Kallimani. Invocation was sung by Smrithi B S. Murdula T H introduced the chief guest. Prof Sunil read the list of AIMES office bearers. The formal function was followed by an interactive session with the chief guest.
