One die in fire at oil factory in west Delhi


New Delhi, Sep 8 (IANS):A 28-year-old man died after a fire broke out in an oil godown in west Delhi's Punjabi Bagh area on Saturday evening, a fire official said.

Delhi Fire servic said 22 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

The deceased was identified as Romit Kumar, a resident of Kirari Delhi. He worked as an accountant at the oil godown, police said.

He was with the owner and was not able to get out when the fire broke out, said the police, adding his mobile was also switched off.

His family members have been informed.

Initially, no death was reported, but later during cooling operations, a charred body was found on the first floor of the godown, DFS said.

According to a senior fire official, they received a call about the fire around 4:57 p.m.

"Initially five tenders rushed to the spot and later on 17 more were sent," said the official.

The cause of the fire is not known as yet.

A senior police officer said all the adjoining buildings were evacuated as soon as the information about the massive fire was received. Local residents said the building stored lubricant oil.

A case has been registered, police said.
