Youth lynched in Bengal on suspicion of child abduction

Kolkata, Sep 12 (IANS): A youth was lynched in Asansol of West Bengal's West Burdwan district on Wednesday by locals, who suspected that he was a child-kidnapper, police said.

The locals became suspicious on seeing the youth roam aimlessly in Salanpur and challenged him.

Not convinced with his reply, the mob dragged him on the ground and started beating him up after tying him to an electric pole.

As personnel from Salanpur police station rushed in, they met fierce resistance from the locals. An assistant sub-inspector and a civic volunteer were injured in the scuffle with the mob.

Police finally managed to rescue the youth and took him to a hospital where he was declared dead.
