Doha, Sep 12: As September approaches, Mangalureans all over the world prepare their minds and hearts to venerate the Blessed Virgin Mother Mary, at her Nativity – Monthi Fest. It is an occasion, where families come together and renew their bonds over a vegetarian meal ‘Novem Jevann’ and taste the new corn.
Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC) Doha, Qatar one of the prestigious and pioneer Clubs in Doha, Qatar; is known for uniting all Mangalureans under one roof with the sole intention of upholding and sustaining the rich culture and traditions of Mangalore ever since its inception in 1992. MCC has been celebrating the feast of Nativity every year with the sharing of new corns and blessing of the fruits of people’s labor through the annual ‘Novem Jevann’.
MCC will be celebrating Monthi fest on Friday, 13 September at 5.30 pm at the Ashoka Hall, Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), Doha, Qatar. The highlight of the evening will be the sharing of the blessed corn ‘Novem’ and partaking in the home-cooked meal, as one family.
Tina Fernandes, Advisory Council member of Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) appointed by Indian Ambassador to Qatar will grace this event as Guest of Honour. She is the only female member in the Advisory Council and heads the Prison team under the umbrella of ICBF which does charitable and welfare works in particular for Indians in Qatar. Her appointment to this post was in recognition of her social work (in her individual capacity) over couple of years of visiting prisoners, hospitals and providing air tickets for prisoners through the support of her friends and acquaintances and well-wishers. The Prison team headed by her visits prisons and supports the prisoners in various capacities and in particular helps repatriating them by providing air tickets.
In addition, MCC will also be felicitating outstanding Mangalurean students who have excelled in academic studies, sports and co-curricular activities in the year 2018-19.
MCC has always provided a platform for budding artists to showcase their innumerable talents and rising to the occasion, our own talented members will present a variety of cultural programs with songs, dances, and a rib tickling comedy drama “Gulfacho Novro” to entertain the gathering.
MCC extends the invitation to all Mangalureans in Qatar to join the Monthi Fest celebration as one family and celebrate Monthi feast in the true family spirit.
