CIL gives Odisha Rs 50.32 cr for power infra restoration

Bhubaneswar, Sep 13 (IANS): The Coal India Ltd (CIL) on Friday handed over a cheque of Rs 50.32 crore to the Odisha government for building electricity infrastructure in the cyclone Fani-affected areas in the state.

The financial support was paid to the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority.

The cheque was presented to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik by Coal Secretary Sumanta Chaudhuri in the presence of Joint Secretary Ashish Upadhyay, CIL Chairman A.K.Jha and Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd CMD B.N. Shukla.

Cyclone Fani that hit the Odisha coast on May 3 this year has devastated several parts of the state, and the CIL's financial support will help in restoration of electricity supply in Puri, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and other command areas of CIL.

The electricity restoration work would be executed through the Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (OPTCL), which will work to restore three 220KV and two 132KV damaged power transmission lines for ensuring full restoration of power supply in the affected areas.
