UP girl left partially blinded after assault by 3 youth

Kanpur, Sep 16 (IANS): An altercation between three youths and a girl living here took a violent turn, leaving the girl partially blinded.

The youths and the girl are immediate neighbours in the Idgah colony under the Colonelganj police circle here. About a week ago, an argument took place between the girl and the youths over a trivial issue.

One of the youths pushed the girl and she hit her face on the handle of a motorbike parked nearby. The handle hit her eye.

The boys then punched her in the face and hit her on the head.

The boys - Babua, Bhalu and Kallu - then dragged the girl to a nearby park but local residents, on hearing the girl's screams, came to her rescue and the boys ran away.

The girl, who is 19 years old, was immediately taken to a medical facility. The doctors said that she is suffering from partial blindness due to the impact of the injury.

However, a week later, her eye sight has started improving.

The girl's father who works in a private company, later lodged a FIR at the Colonelganj police station under Sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 325 (voluntarily causing grievous injury).

The accused youth have been arrested and sent to jail.
