US Ambassador, Eastern Army chief discuss security issues


Kolkara, Sep 16 (IANS): US Ambassador to India Kenneth I. Juster on Monday discussed regional and global security issues concerning the two countries with Eastern Army commander, Lt Gen Anil Chauhan.

The meeting held at the Eastern Army headquarters Fort William here aimed at strengthening defence cooperation between the two nations to put up a united fight against terrorism, an official said.

"The ambassador's visit to the Eastern Command headquarters signifies the growing strategic partnership between the two leading armies of the world, who are also important partners in bilateral training and various fora for Indo-US defence engagement," the official said.

Juster also called on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the state secretariat Nabanna. Their meeting lasted 40 minutes.
