Portion of vacant building collapses in Mumbai, no casualties


Mumbai, Sep 20 (IANS): A portion of a vacant six-storey building collapsed in South Mumbai's Lokmanya Tilak Road on Friday morning, said an official of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)Disaster Control. However, no casualties have been reported in the incident.

According to the official, a part of the old Ahmed building, with mostly commercial structures, came down crashing at around 10 a.m.

Fire brigade officials and rescue agencies have been pressed into operations, though locals claimed that some persons may be trapped under the rubble. Work is on to clear the debris.
