Muslim activist calls for 'jihad' at Birmingham rally

London, Sep 25 (IANS): Police are investigating activist and former 'Muslim of the Year' nominee Sumaira Farrukh, who has been filmed telling a crowd that "jihad is the only solution" during a protest over India's move on Kashmir.

Footage shows Farrukh, 38, using the inflammatory word during a political rally outside the Council House in Birmingham last month.

In a video, Farrukh, a businesswoman and journalist, is seen standing on the steps of Birmingham's landmark Victoria Square and telling supporters: "There is only one slogan for today. It is remove curfew from Kashmir. Let them live their own lives -- nothing more than that.

"And one thing to truth-tell to the Muslim community! There's only one solution which is jihad. No protest, nothing. Just jihad."

A resident of Bordesley Green, Farrukh has described herself in the past as a "social worker", "philanthropist" and "chief executive" of a Muslim TV channel, Noor TV.

The police have visited Farrukh at her home in Birmingham and have confirmed that an investigation is going on.

On her part, Farrukh denied inciting violence, insisting that she was referring to "a struggle".

When quizzed about her speech, Farrukh said: "'Jihad' doesn't have one particular meaning. If you have a problem with the Government of the UK and you want to raise your voice, the struggle is called 'jihad' in the meaning of Islam. Do you think I'm the kind of person who would use that word to encourage people to go and fight?"

West Midlands Mayor Andy Street said: "The comments made by Sumaira Farrukh go completely against the spirit of the Faith Conference and its steering group, which promoted tolerance and respect."

Well, well, well.... UK did not realize that when they started sheltering these Pakis, one day they will turn on them, make them naked and burn them alive. Let any other community person dare to walk in Birmingham!

Even Police are scared for their life. A beautiful city has been turned into a terrorist hudda.

If UK wants to separate from EU, one primary reason is to stop this influx of the dirtiest of dirty scoundrels into their country. I have heard speeches of current London Mayor that UK will be called a Islamic county before the turn of this century, and it will happen!

If jihad has multiple meanings, in an English speaking country, a sincere and non-political person would use an English word.

Surely this "activist" was aware how the audience would take the meaning of the word, used liberally by ISIS/Daesh in their all-out destruction spree.

When confronted, some of these characters turn 180 degrees and provide "a meaning" at the other end of the spectrum.

She is quite right. Jihad is an Arabic word means “to strive for some objective”. Thus, the common assumption, that Jihad is combat, is incorrect. In fact Jihad, in its technical meaning, has several branches, among which are the combative forms of Jihad. It is the media and few wasted interest misinterpreted to achieve their agenda and some way to defame the religion and community.

Abrofpgatin of article 370 without curfew and house arrests would have been a welcome move but as it stands it was a very unpopular, undemocratic and unconstitutional move by govt and continues. BJP govt will be exposed to world with pants down sooner or later.
