Iran's Khamenei says European countries 'cannot be trusted'

Tehran, Sep 26 (IANS) Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Thursday that the European countries which side with the US over its sanctions on Iran "cannot be trusted".

Khamenei said that the European countries have not fulfilled their commitments under the Iranian landmark 2015 nuclear deal to protect Iran's interests amid U.S. sanction pressures, Xinhua reported, citing a report by Iranian state TV.

"Despite their promises, the Europeans have remained committed to the U.S. sanctions against Iran in practice and have not taken any action" in this regard, he said, in a meeting with members of the Iranian Assembly of Experts.

The remarks by the Iranian leader came as the efforts by some European countries are underway in the ongoing UN General Assembly meeting to help resolve differences between Iran and the US.
