Mangalore: Under-trial Escapes From Hospital

Mangalore, Jul 22: An under-trial serving a sentence in district sub-jail escaped from District Wenlock Hospital in the city on Wednesday July 22, where he was brought in for treatment accompanied by the police.
Under-trail has been identified as Hameed, resident of Bottukere, Guruvayankere in Beltangady. Hameed was taken to the hospital accompanied by the police for treatment of his injured finger. Amid the treatment, he excused himself to use the toilet after permission from the police escorting him. Police informed that though they were alert on hearing some sounds from inside the toilet, Hameed by then had made good his escape through the window of the toilet.
After the public in the hospital surroundings became aware of the incident, one of the autorickshaw driver from the auto parking on the road behind the hospital has informed the police that a person, who was bleeding on the leg sought his help to travel to South Wharf in the city. He further informed that unaware that the person had escaped from the police custody, he had picked him up from behind the hospital.
The escaped under-trial was arrested about three weeks ago and was accused in a stab case occurred two years back under Mangalore rural police limits. He was absconding till the date of arrest.
Deputy superintendent of police Dharmaiah visited the hospital and has gathered information.
