Sonia, Rahul, Priyanka to lead 'padyatras'

New Delhi, Oct 1 (IANS): Amid a tussle with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over Mahatma Gandhi's legacy, the Congress leaders will hold 'padyatras' across the country on Wednesday on the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary, with party's interim Chief Sonia Gandhi set to lead one such march in Delhi.

Party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi will lead the padyatra in Lucknow and Rahul Gandhi in Maharashtra' s Wardha .

Sonia Gandhi will be marching from Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) office on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg to Rajghat, which is a distance of about 3 kms.

"The party has asked its leaders to participate in this programme at least for an hour. All the office bearers and leaders will be participating in this padyatra to highlight the Gandhian ideology," a party leader said.

The Congress decided to hold the programme at a time when the Modi government is making vigorous efforts to claim Mahatma Gandhi's legacy.

When you take a padayatra or any other forms of movement we don't become followers of Gandhi. One should walk in his footsteps and live life according to his principles and then only we are called true followers. What Cong and BJP doing is fooling the public and our educated public enjoy getting fooled and they happily participate in such yatra.
