Haryana CM files nomination from Karnal

Karnal, Oct 1 (IANS): Haryana Chief Minister and BJP leader Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday filed his nomination papers from the Karnal assembly seat.

He was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other BJP leaders during the nomination filing.

"I expect people will shower more love and blessings on me this time. I feel people will ensure a victory for me with more votes than the last time," Khattar said after filing the papers.

On resentment over ticket distribution, he said: "It is natural that the number of ticket aspirants goes up when the atmosphere is in favour of the party. Our workers are disciplined."

Two Cabinet ministers in his government -- Vipul Goel and Rao Narbir Singh -- did not figure in the first list of 78 candidates announced on Monday for the Assembly elections in the state owing to internal squabble in the party.

The 90-member Haryana Assembly will go to the polls on October 21 and the results will be declared on October 24.

The BJP's first list includes nine women and two Muslims, while seven sitting legislators have been dropped.

Real-life 'dangal' stars and Olympic champion Yogeshwar Dutt and Babita Phogat alongside former Indian hockey captain Sandeep Singh have entered the political arena as BJP nominees.

The last day for filing nominations is October 4.
