Daijiworld Media Network - Chikkamagaluru (SP)

Chikkamagaluru, Oct 4: A farmer, who was frustrated at the heavy loss suffered by his agricultural fields on account of heavy rainfall and agonizing delay in receipt of compensation for the loss, ended his life by consuming poison on the night of Wednesday October 3. The man who ended his life was Chandre Gowda from Kalasa revenue division in the district.

During the last month, a farmer, Chennappa Gowda (65) from Karagadde near Kalasa had fired at himself for the same reason.

He was approaching revenue department offices frequently seeking disbursement of compensation it is learnt. It is said that relying on the compensation expected from the government, he had taken Rs 1.5 lac worth loans from money lenders and a cooperative bank.

As he could not repay the loan in time, Chandre Gowda was distressed. He also explained about the consternation he was undergoing on account of non-release of flood compensation amount on Tuesday. At night, he consumed pesticide and ended his life.

Lal Bahadur Shastri, the second Prime Minister of India was known for his simple lifestyle and soft nature. A brave leader with a deep concern for the common man, the kind of leader country needs today.

While Shastri was Prime Minister India plunged into famine after a series of countrywide droughts and other external reasons. In 1965, India had to engage in a war with Pakistan. Even as India faced the famine-like situation and was engaged in a full-fledged war with Pakistan, the United States threatened to cut off food supplies to India.

As Shastri had a socialist inclination, he promoted self-reliance rather than importing supplies from other countries. He introduced the concept of kitchen gardens in India. He wanted to grow crops in every piece of unused land. To promote this idea, he even ploughed the Pradhan Mantri Awas lawn.

Under his leadership, India faced and repulsed the Pakistani invasion of 1965. It is not only a matter of pride for the Indian Army but also for every citizen of the country. Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri's slogan Jai Jawan Jai Kisan reverberates even today through the length and breadth of the country. Underlying this is the inner-most sentiments 'Jai Hindustan'.

Once these farmers who are feeding the nation and making our nation self reliant and proud to be respected as 'food basket', now one of the neglected class under the leadership of the PM Modi's BJP government.

There are 45 farmers who commit suicide each day in India. Over 12,000 farmer suicides per year.
When the nation celebrated the anniversary of Shastri, another farmer dies unnaturally. Today nation misses a great leader like Shastri.

Kalasa station police visited the village and registered a case. Against whom? Those who make empty promises before elections when will they be held responsible for not keeping up their promises? Can any one register a case for duping with empty promises? Over and above that they switch parties and want to contest again. We are blind to agree with them to vote for these criminals and become partners in crime!

Should have waited at least till 2024. Modi has requested everyone to give him at least 10 years as the citizens of this country have given 70 years to Congress.

Flood relief will come in pittance, the timing only Nagpur university knows. Even Yediyurappa's days are numbered. Already rift started between Benki and him
