How is writing a letter to PM sedition, asks Stalin

Chennai, Oct 5 (IANS): DMK President M.K. Stalin on Saturday wondered how writing a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to uphold communal harmony and tolerance could turn into sedition.

He was referring to an FIR registered against 49 noted personalities including filmmaker Mani Ratnam, actress Revathi and historian Ramachandra Guha, in a Bihar police station for writing to Modi on the incidents of lynching in the country.

"How can it become a sedition when asked to uphold secularism and tolerance?" Stalin asked.

The DMK chief branding people like Guha, Revathi, Mani Ratnam and others as traitors was not acceptable.

Condemning the FIR, Stalin said it created doubt and fear in the people's mind whether one was living in a democratic country.

Dissent is regarded as sedition in Modi's India. It is an attempt to suppress the liberty of the citizen. Congress should remind people of Gandhi's fight for freedom by quoting Gandhi's sayings which are relevant today. Gandhi reminded the British that affection for a government cannot be regulated or compelled. "Affection cannot be manufactured or regulated by law. If one has no affection for a person or system, one should be free to give the fullest expression to his disaffection, so long as he does not contemplate, promote, or incite to violence. But the section under which Mr. Banker and I are charged is one under which mere promotion of disaffection is a crime…I have studied some of the cases tried under it (section 124A) and I know that some of the most loved of India’s patriots have been convicted under it. I consider it a privilege, therefore, to be charged under that section."

PM's silence speaks volumes against this issue. Modi is supporting morally and legally these mob lynchers and terming people who are appealing to him to intervene on this humanitarian issue as anti nationals. Do we need any other proof to prove this is Undeclared Emergency and terrorism at its peak in the country from the govt????.
