Mumbai, Oct 5: Youth wing president of Shiv Sena, Aaditya Thackeray slammed the Metro Rail Corporation, here for felling hundreds of trees for a Metro car shed. The trees were felled in the night of Friday, despite protests by environment activists.
The leader tweeted that the swift cutting down of trees is shameful and disgusting. Protesters claimed that more than one thousand trees were cut in a day applying force, including hitting and arresting protesters including Adivasis who refused to move from the venue of protests.
Activists and students gathered in large numbers to protest against felling trees. Section 144 is in force in Aarey colony where the Metro car shed is proposed. Aaditya Thackeray asked why citizens protesting against the felling are being treated like criminals.
