Jaipur, Sep 7: Alwar police on Sunday arrested two men in Rajasthan’s Alwar for harassing and forcing a Muslim couple from Haryana to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’.
The accused, identified Vansh Bhardwaj, 23, and Surendra Mohan Bhatia, 32, were produced before a judge and later remanded to judicial custody till October 18.
“The incident happened on Saturday, around midnight 11.30 pm. Two men on a motorcycle came to Alwar bus stand, where the couple was waiting for their bus. The accused began harassing the couple and forced them to chant Jai Shree Ram. One of the men even tried to molest the female,” said an Alwar police officer, as reported in Hindustan Times.

In a medical examination conducted by the police, it was found that one of the accused, Bhatia, was in a drunken state when the incident happened.
Both the accused have been charged under section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354A (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt ), 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
