Modi arrives in Chennai


Chennai, Oct 11 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday arrived here to participate in the two-day second informal India-China Summit with visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping in Mahabalipuram near here.

Modi was received by Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister K. Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and others upon his arrival here.

"Landed in Chennai. I am happy to be in the great land of Tamil Nadu, known for its wonderful culture and hospitality. It is gladdening that Tamil Nadu will host President Xi Jinping. May this Informal Summit further strengthen ties between India and China," Modi tweeted.

Modi will fly from the airport in a helicopter to Thiruvidandai and from there he will reach the Taj Fishermen's Cove Resort & Spa.

Chinese President Xi is expected to land here in the afternoon. He will leave for Mahabalipuram from the ITC Grand Chola at about 4 p.m. and meet Modi there.
