Panaji, Oct 12: Hot air balloon service in this year tourist season has delayed in Goa due to continuous rain in the region. Usually the service starts in October, now been pushed to November due to the risk factor of landing hot air balloons in damp ground.
“The landing ground is still moist because of continuous rain. As a result, we have decided to start the service next month,” said G S Rathore director of Camping Retreats of India Pvt Ltd, as quoted by TOI.
However, the service is currently available in Chandor in South Goa. An hour-long balloon ride costs Rs 11,000. The service started six years ago and the response is growing every season. “We are exploring options to start the service in North Goa as well and suitable spots are being examined,” said Rathore.
“The adventure sport began later than usual due to the delayed monsoon. This service has also become popular. Visitors plan their trips during the monsoon to enjoy whitewater rafting in the Mhadei. Plans are afoot to restart the helicopter rides and a helipad at Ella is being constructed,” a Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) official said.
