'The Warrior Queen of Jhansi' to open in India on Nov 29

New Delhi, Oct 14 (IANS): Director Swati Bhise's historical film "The Warrior Queen Of Jhansi" will release in India on November 29.

"The Warrior Queen Of Jhansi" traces the life of Rani Laxmibai, and her journey of becoming an icon for women all across the world. The director's daughter, Devika Bhise, essays Rani Laxmibai.

The film will release in India in English and Marathi.

"We grew up with her story. I think every young child in India grows up listening to this real-life tale through the oral tradition as well as school textbooks. Through this film I wanted to narrate the true story of a determined young woman who could have been of any colour or creed," Swati said.

"I've tried to tell her story as a woman ahead of her time -- who was also a mother, wife, queen, and friend -- but who finally went down in the annals of history as a freedom fighter who believed in the unyielding feminine force," she added.

On the role, Devika said: "This is the first ever action film in Hollywood to have a female Indian lead and it's exciting to be a part of such a path-breaking film. The film shows the varied layers of the brave queen which women of today can resonate and connect with."

The film comes from the makers of "The Man Who Knew Infinity" and also features Ajinkya Deo, Arif Zakaria, Deepal Doshi, Nagesh Bhosle, Auroshikha Dey, Mangal Sanap, Naina Sareen and Pallavi Patil. It is produced by Cayenne Peppers Productions and distributed in India by PVR Pictures.
