Turkish troops advance towards Manbij of Syria

Ankara, Oct 15 (IANS): Turkish troops on Monday started to move towards Manbij in northern Syria, local CNNTurk broadcaster reported.

The news channel broadcasted the Turkish soldiers moving from Jarablus region to Manbij on foot, Xinhua news agency reported.

Turkish artillery fire supports the troops, local Demiroren News Agency reported.

The move comes after claims that the Syrian Kurdish fighters reached a deal with the Syrian government for entering Kurdish-held territory, after the United States abandoned the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces to the relentless bombardment by Turkish artillery and jets.

Last Wednesday, Turkey launched a military offensive dubbed "Operation Peace Spring" against Kurdish forces in northern Syria.
