Minor girl’s leg stuck between elevator shaft, crushed to death

Hyderabad, Oct 20: In an unfortunate incident, a minor girl got stuck between an elevator shaft and was crushed to death at the Hastinapuram North Extension Colony in Hyderabad on Friday.

The nine-year-old Lasya Yadav was taking the lift to her house on the third floor of the building and her leg accidentally slid into the gap, she could not pull it out as someone pressed the lift button from the third floor and the lift began to ascend.

Though her father Chandrashekhar Yadav called the ambulance and the lift's maintenance staff immediately arrived at the spot, they could only retrieve the girl's body two hours after the incident.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced brought dead, said the police.

A case of accidental death was registered.

President of the state child rights association, P Achyuta Rao condoled the girl's death and called for the municipal authorities to sanction builders only after examining the fitness of elevators installed.
