Bangalore, Aug 4: In a tragic accident, three hapless children, four-year-old Babita , her three-year-old sister Rachael and one-and half-year-old Santosh were charred to death when their house caught fire. The children could not escape as they were locked inside by their mother.
The mother of the children, Savitha, did not expect her children's lives would be snuffed in a bizarre fire accident when she left for work leaving her children all by themselves. Apparently she was forced to lock the kids inside following complaints from neighbors that the children venture out and create a nuisance.
The incident came to light when neighbors noticed thick smoke coming out from the house and informed the police. They broke open the house and rescued the kids, but in vain. The three kids died and the house was partially gutted.
According to Rammurthy Nagar police the mishap might have occurred due to the flip of a candle or a similar object which finally burnt the home.
Rammurthy Nagar police inspector, Krishnamurthy said that Savitha, wife of Ravi Shekhar was living alone as her husband deserted her few months back. She was living in a rented house with her three children. She managed to get an Ayah’s ( maid) job at Saint Paul’s school and decided to leave the children in the house locked before going to work.
The police have shifted the bodies to Bowring hospital. Police sources said that they are investigating and trying to ascertain the cause of this tragic accident.
