Mangalore, Aug 6: Sevanjali Charitable Trust (Regd), a voluntary youth group, having its office at Car Street in the city, has been spearheading various service activities in different service fields like education, healthcare and providing relief to the needy. It has chosen B R Bhat, general manager (GM) of Corporation Bank here, as the 'Sevanjali Person of the Year - 2009'. The award would be conferred on Bhat at a function to be held at Sri Sudhindra Hall of Lord Venkatramana Temple, Car Street here on Saturday, August 8.

On the occasion of the eighth anniversary of the organization, Sevanjali Charitable Trust will be organizing a mass Sri Satyanarayana Puja at the said temple on Saturday. The awards function will coincide with this programme. On the occasion, a programme of handing over cheques by various donors in the city, who have appreciated the social service activities of the organization, to the Trust will also be organized, a release from the Trust said.

About Sevanjali Trust: Sevanjali was formed with the inspiration provided by Srimad Sudhindra Teertha Swamiji, spiritual head of Sri Kashi Mutt, who has been motivating the youth since decades, to harness their talents for the service of the nation. The objectives of the trust include providing financial support to poor students to pursue education and to the needy patients for medical treatment, reaching out to and empowering the physically and mentally challenged persons, senior citizens, destitute women, orphans etc., undertaking community health programmes like medical check up camps, free eye testing, blood bank etc., striving for social harmony, peace and fellowship through friendly interactions, organizing lectures, seminars and workshops for intellectual advancement, apart from striving to promote social cultural and patriotic values through exposure programmes.

Since its inception, the Trust's activities have been spearheaded under the dynamic leadership of D Vedavyas Kamath, president of the Trust. During the last eight years, the Trust has mobilized and disbursed over Rs 25 lac for the purposes for which it was formed. The trust had adopted Nalyapadav government higher primary school in Shaktinagar here, for a period of two years from June, 2003, during which, it provided umbrellas, free eye testing, spectacles  and treatments for the students including surgery wherever required, provision of hygienic toilets, extending of mid-day meal scheme up to the seventh standard by meeting differential cost, providing of modern public address system etc.  The Trust also has been disbursing monthly pensions to poor senior citizens.

The trust plans to establish an old age home for taking care of the homeless senior citizens, a cow-shelter for stray, confiscated, sick and old cattle, strive to spread Sanskrit language and constuct a community hall which can serve as a venue for various activities including the service activities.

Donations: The Trust says, it is entirely dependent on donations and sponsorships and hence, it solicits generous support from individuals and organizations. It has said, all contributions to the Trust are exempt from taxation under section 80(G) of the Indian Income Tax Act, 1961.

    The Guru Baliga, Mangalore has claimed (in one of his comments) that he belongs to this trust. From his comments we could make out his attitude as "Political" "Communal" and "anti NRI"...... I sincerely hope he doesnt belong to such organisation..!

    This is a very good Trust we should have many trust''s like these to uplift the people of Mangalore in all walks of life. Daiji please send their Bank account # for NRI donor''s to send some money. Such good work should not go Unrecognised. Keep it up Mr.Kamath, And Congrat''s to M R Bhat.
