Mangaluru, Oct 25: The sixth additional district and sessions court, on Thursday October 24, pronounced death sentence to Cyanide Mohan (56) in the case relating to promising a girl from Balepuni in Bantwal taluk of marriage, taking her to Bengaluru where she was raped, and killed her the next morning by giving cyanide tablet, and fleeing with her gold ornaments. 

Judge of the court, Sayeedunnisa, had on October 22, pronounced Mohan guilty in the case and passed order on sentence on Thursday. 

In addition to death sentence subject to high court approval, Mohan has been given a number of jail sentences and fines for kidnapping, rape, feeding of poison, destruction of evidence, cheating etc. 

Mohan, who is presently lodged in Hindalga prison, heard the judgement through video conferencing facility calmly. Public prosecutor, Judit Olga Margaret Crasta, had strongly argued to award death sentence to Mohan in this case. 

This happens to be the 17th murder case in which Mohan has been found guilty, and three more cases are yet to be decided. This is the fourth case in which the district court awarded death sentence to him. The court also said that the family of the girl is eligible to get compensation from the government through the district legal services authority,  

In the earlier three cases where death sentences were awarded to Mohan, the high court had reduced the death sentence granted to him to life term imprisonment in one case, while in another case, the sentence was pruned to five years rigorous imprisonment.
